Run Like You're Chasing A Toddler!

July 5, 2016

I am not a runner. If you see me running down the street you will see a toddler running right in front of me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to exercise. I just prefer the kind where you don't realize that you're doing it (beach volleyball with friends, hiking in the Gorge, etc).

But I am making Miles For Milk my first run and here's why.

1. I believe all babies deserve human milk.

I can't imagine a world where babies didn't have access to human milk when they need it most. If I had no other motivation, I'd still participate in Miles For Milk.

2. I don't want to buy a new wardrobe.

All of my pants have suddenly shrunk. That's all I want to say about that.

3. This fits my busy-mother schedule.

The bottom line is, I get to pick when I hit the trail and for how long. This works for me!

4. I don't have to "train".

I can literally get off the couch and do a 5K. I may be walking it the entire thing... but I can sacrifice for the babies.

5. I don't have to navigate in a crowd!

The only reason I don't run marathons regularly (eh-hem!) is that my feet kick out to the sides when I run and I don't want to injure my fellow runners. But in Miles For Milk I can go solo or bring an understanding friend (with a stern warning to stay at arms length).

6. Every step I take feeds a baby.

My $25 registration fee feeds a hospitalized preemie for an entire day! So, even if I happen to break my foot right before my run, I've still done some good. (I'm sure my pants would disagree, though.)
